Bug Bounties?

Tue Dec 01, 2015 12:53 pm

I was looking around for ways to make some side cash and remembered bug bounties were a thing, but I have never done one. Turns out there are actually a lot more places than I thought for this. Link for example.

Anyone participated in these before? Do they generally require a POC write-up or some sort of demonstration?

I haven't done this before. I did however worked as a freelancer and as a contractor to find the bugs. It sounds interesting, I have also done mobile application testing with similar sites as uTester a great website and quick money the only downfall is that you have to stay active through out the day or you will loose on the project. The pay out can go from $4 to $20 and it's weekly pay.

I've never done any actual work with the bug bounties. But I know that they are definitely pretty nice, especially if you actually find bugs with some high paying people. I know sites like Facebook give out hefty sums for vulnerabilities and whatnot.
I can only assume they'd want a PoC though.

I heard that Facebook efd over one guy who found a bug through the poke option and told facebook about it and they didn't listen to him and when he posted the bug online they fix it immediately and told him that there was no bug. That's pretty messed up to not pay the guy for his hard work.

I did hear that they pay up to or around $500/bug.

I found this link for facebook not paying up: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... ility.html

The average reward in 2014 was $1,788 as 321 researchers worldwide participated. The top five earners last year collectively netted $256,750.
That's some hefty money there.

Yeah definitely. If anything, it'd be a nice way to make some solid cash on the side doing something that you're passionate about.
